A wonderful horse, waiting for me, as beautiful as horses can be.    Grace Edwards

Our Horses

Juliet was a bay Thoroughbred mare foaled in 1972. She came to Flying Changes Center in 1994 as a donation by the Woodward/Watson family of Brunswick.

After becoming a therapeutic riding horse, she was one of the first horses to help launch the Maine Special Olympics. In 1999, at the ripe old age of 27, she retired from the riding program at Flying Changes and lived out her days here at the farm.

Juliet lived much longer than the average lifespan of a horse, which is 20 to 30 years, and will be missed.

Abby
I am a bay Morab (Morgan/Arabian) pony mare, and my birthday is 5-10-83. My registered Morab name is Zippy Genie. I came to Flying Changes Center in 2000. I’ve taught hundreds of students to ride over the years, and I especially love teaching beginners. I can walk, trot, canter, and jump.

Mystery
I am a bay Thoroughbred gelding, and my birthday is 2-27-85. My full name is “Mystery Dance.” My grandfather was a Thoroughbred racehorse, Native Dancer. I came to Flying Changes from a background of Combined Training (dressage, cross-country and stadium jumping). Since coming to Flying Changes in 1999, I’ve worked with many groups and individuals in the riding program and the Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy program.

Quinn
I am a bay Thoroughbred mare, and my birthday is 1-1-87. (I wasn’t born right on New Year’s Day, but as a registered Thoroughbred, my official birthday is Jan. 1.) Prior to coming to Flying Changes Center in 2003, I had a career in Combined Training (dressage, cross-country & stadium jumping). I love to work with beginner and advanced students alike in riding and jumping.

Phia
I am a Norwegian Fjord mare, and my birthday is 6-26-87. I was born at Fjord Gate Farm in Norway, Maine, and my registered Fjord name is Adella. My haircut is traditional to the Fjord breed, and I grow a thick winter coat each winter. (In this photo, you can see that I get trace clipped on my body since my coat is so shaggy.) Flying Changes Center purchased me from my previous owner in Vermont back in 1996. In 2000, I was named the NARHA New England Region Therapy Horse of the Year. I know how to ride, jump, and drive, and I love working with students in the developmental vaulting program.

Rembrandt (Remi)
I am a grey Percheron cross gelding, and I was born in 1985. On February 15, 2007, my owner Sue Pratt donated me to Flying Changes to become part of the herd here. Sue and I spent 17 years doing dressage, driving, and a little jumping, and thanks to her efforts, I’m a great schoolmaster for all levels of students at Flying Changes. Before Sue bought me at age 5, I drove a wagon across the country (over the course of three years) to help my previous owner raise money for the American Cancer Society. Hana Poulin, one of Flying Changes’ volunteers, remembers me from those days when I was young and learning to drive at her dad, Larry Poulin’s farm (my name was “Scout” then).

Spring
I am a chestnut Quarter Horse/Thoroughbred mare, and my birthday is 4-23-80. My full name is “A Touch of Spring.” I was donated to Flying Changes Center in 1995 by Joan Harrigan. I have experience playing Parelli games and working with all sorts of students. I’m ridden in many beginner lessons and I love to work with the Coffin Elementary School groups. I’m also used in the Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy program. I love connecting with people.

Erwin
I am a miniature horse. My birthday is 2-14-87 (I’m a Valentine horse – check out the heart-shaped spot on my butt!). I came to Flying Changes Center in 1997, and my main job is pulling the cart for Flying Changes in the Bath Heritage Days parade each summer. I am a whiz at driving and I’m great with obstacle courses.

Lily
I am a black miniature horse, and my birthday is 6-10-92. My full name is “Little Wonder’s Daylily.” In 2002, Flying Changes Center received a grant from Bowdoin College’s Common Good student grant making program to purchase me to help with Flying Changes’ therapeutic outreach programs. My favorite activity is going to visit people in senior centers, assisted living facilities, hospitals, and anyplace I can make people smile. I love to be patted and will lean against you for a good scratch.
