Interacting with a horse to gain self-confidence and horsemanship skills.

Summer Day Camp

Flying Changes Center Summer Day Camp is a full day experience for youngsters ages 8 to 16. Our goal is to offer youngsters an opportunity to gain self-confidence and horsemanship skills as they interact with each other and with the horses all while having fun.

5 Day Sessions

Each five day session gives campers the opportunity to ride, drive, and play mounted games on horseback as well as an exposure to the work and responsibility of equine care. Special activities may include equine related arts and crafts as well as activities to enrich knowledge of the different breeds and styles of horsemanship.

The camper will accept responsibility and care for "their" horse for the week, including feeding and watering, stall maintenance, bathing and grooming and basic first aid. Prior to riding, campers will be taught the many steps involved in grooming and tacking up and will learn to maintain their equipment. Taking on the nurturing of another living being brings with it learning that is difficult to replicate elsewhere, and our young riders quickly develop an appreciation for sharing the presence of our magnificent and very special horses.

Mounted activities will focus on the campers current abilities and provide guided skill development. Beginners will learn the essential rules of safe horsemanship while working in a program that emphasizes step-by-step skill acquisition.

Getting to know each other and make new two-legged friends is also a wonderfully exciting side to camp. Campers are encouraged to work together throughout the day as they share the joys of being around horses.

Our Program, Our Horses, Our Facility

Our program is exceptional in that it works to strengthen the interaction of children and horses, based on the powerful dynamics of the human/animal bond. Horses are unique in that they are the only domesticated animal that evolution has set up for flight and the horse's sensory system is acutely organized for heightened awareness. This extra sensory perception is the key to a horse's ability to transport a person to a place where one feels safe, loved and whole. The powerful, yet gentle, essence of the horses and the warmth of body and spirit are the primary ingredients to the success of our work at Flying Changes. The horse almost always becomes a best friend, demonstrating with great patience how to respect, interact, be responsible and love.

Our facility has an indoor riding arena for all-weather use as well as outdoor riding areas with beautiful open fields to add a variety of riding experiences. From intense instruction to the peace of simply observing the horses as they graze, our indoor/outdoor facility is the perfect site for teaching young people the joys of working and playing safely with horses and ponies in a wholesome, healthy atmosphere.

The cost of our program is $320 per session with a $100 deposit due with the registration packet. The balance is due by June 1, 2008 (no refunds after that date). Campers may attend multiple sessions.
